President Bola Tinubu has appointed Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HOCSF), effective August 27, 2026.

The appointment was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his X account.

Enitan will succeed Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60.

An indigene of Osun State, Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served as a Permanent Secretary for about seven years and seven months and has held several strategic positions across government.

His previous postings include the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and the Office of the Vice President. He currently serves as Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.

According to the Presidency, Enitan’s extensive experience across different arms of government has equipped him with a deep understanding of the structure, operations and challenges of the Federal Civil Service.

President Tinubu also commended Walson-Jack for her service to the nation, acknowledging the reforms and innovations introduced during her tenure as Head of Service.

The President wished her well in retirement and thanked her for her contributions to the development of the Nigerian public service.

Tinubu charged Enitan to consolidate ongoing reforms in the civil service while strengthening professionalism, efficiency and accountability.

He further tasked the new Head of Service with ensuring that the civil service remains responsive to the needs of Nigerians and anchored on merit, innovation and high professional standards in support of his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Born on December 12, 1966, Enitan attended Ajibode Grammar School in Ibadan before proceeding to the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.

He later attended the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988. In 2015, he obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.

His appointment comes as the Federal Government intensifies efforts to improve public sector performance, efficiency and service delivery.
