The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) is set to organise a one-day workshop examining how Nigeria can adopt relevant Chinese models in its efforts to tackle poverty and promote sustainable economic development.
The workshop, scheduled for August 25, 2026, will bring together diplomatic reporters, editors, diplomats, policymakers, development partners and other key stakeholders to discuss practical approaches to poverty alleviation.
With the theme, “Nigeria’s Poverty Alleviation Efforts: Adopting China Models and Its Relevance in a New Era: The Place of Policymakers, Development Partners, Key Stakeholders and Diplomatic Reporters,” the event will take place at Rotunda Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, from 10am.

The Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, is expected to deliver a goodwill message at the workshop.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, will also deliver remarks and be honoured as DICAN Grand Patron.
Similarly, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Ahmed Dunoma, will be conferred with the title of DICAN Patron.
Other notable personalities expected to contribute to discussions include Prof. Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Dr Austin Maho and Dr Charles Onunaiju, among other experts.
According to the organisers, the workshop is designed to examine key elements of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s economic and poverty alleviation strategies and identify actionable frameworks that could be adapted to the Nigerian context.
The organisers also said the programme would provide diplomatic reporters, editors and news executives with deeper contextual knowledge to enhance informed and constructive reporting of China-Nigeria relations.
Another key objective is to promote dialogue among Nigerian policymakers, youth leaders, media scholars, members of the diplomatic community and other stakeholders on development and poverty reduction.
In a statement signed by DICAN Chairman, Idehai Frederick, and General Secretary, Emeka Amakor, the association urged invited participants and media organisations to attend and provide comprehensive coverage of the workshop.
