The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a high-powered monitoring team to Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election, with a stern warning that officers found guilty of misconduct will face sanctions.
The Commission said the deployment was aimed at monitoring the conduct of police personnel assigned to election duties and ensuring strict compliance with the rules guiding policing during elections.
The delegation is led by DIG (Dr) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), a Board Member and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters.
According to the Commission, the team will monitor police officers across the state before, during and after the election to ensure they maintain discipline, professionalism and respect for the rights of citizens.
The PSC said it was particularly committed to ensuring that police conduct during the election remained impartial, professional, civil and guided by the rule of law, as part of efforts to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.
The Commission urged all police officers deployed to Osun to remain apolitical and demonstrate exemplary conduct while protecting the rights of eligible voters to participate freely and peacefully in the election.
It further warned that any officer found compromising the credibility of the electoral process would face appropriate disciplinary action.
“The Commission reassures Nigerians that it will not hesitate to sanction any officer found compromising the credibility of the election,” the statement said.
The PSC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting professionalism and accountability within the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in the discharge of election-related duties.
The statement was signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head, Protocol and Public Relations, Police Service Commission, Abuja, on August 11, 2026.
