The Nigerian Workers Group (NWG) has congratulated Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, and the Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, on their appointments to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
The group described the appointments as significant, noting that both Idris and Aremu are products of the labour movement with extensive knowledge of the challenges and aspirations of Nigerian workers.
In a statement signed by its President, Dr. David Ehindero, the NWG said the two labour leaders would bring valuable experience to their respective positions as Director and Deputy Director, Labour Relations, in the campaign council.
The organisation described the appointments as an opportunity to strengthen the participation and voice of Nigerian workers in the national political and development discourse.
It urged the two appointees to use their positions to promote labour-friendly policies, programmes and initiatives in the formulation and implementation of the next administration’s agenda.
The group also called on Idris and Aremu to serve as a bridge between government and the Nigerian workforce by explaining the benefits of government reforms to workers while ensuring that their concerns, expectations and legitimate demands are communicated to the authorities.
According to the NWG, sustainable economic development cannot be achieved without a productive, motivated and adequately protected workforce.
It therefore stressed the need for workers’ welfare, decent employment, social protection, skills development, industrial harmony, productivity and improved living standards to remain priorities in Nigeria’s development agenda.
The group further urged the Labour Relations Directorate to encourage continuous and constructive dialogue among government, organised labour, employers and other stakeholders.
Such engagement, it said, would help build trust and ensure that the gains of economic reforms translate into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerian workers.
As preparations for the 2027 elections intensify, the NWG urged the two labour leaders to ensure that workers’ interests remain central to the national campaign discourse.
It also called for greater efforts to keep Nigerian workers informed about government policies and reforms that affect their livelihoods.
The group expressed confidence that the experience and commitment of Idris and Aremu would strengthen the Presidential Campaign Council’s engagement with the Nigerian working class.
The NWG subsequently wished the two appointees wisdom, courage and success as they take on their new responsibilities.

As reknown labour experts, I am sure both of them will do well for the success of the committee, based on their previous achievements.
I joined the President NWG in congratulating the duo.
