The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has withdrawn a public alert concerning the reported presence of whitish particulate matter in Deleject Disposable Needle, Batch No. 240605, saying the alert was uploaded on its website in error.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Christianah Adeyeye made the disclosure at press briefing on Friday represented by the Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance, Mr. Bitrus Fraden, said there are currently no quality, safety or regulatory concerns requiring an alert on Deleject Disposable Needle products available in the Nigerian market.

The DG said The complaint that led to Public Alert No. 042/2026 was lodged by Pharm. Jiyah Dadi, whose pharmacy is located at No. 1, Aliyu Turaki, Off Isa Kaita Road, Malali, Kaduna.
According to NAFDAC, the complainant purchased the affected Deleject syringes from Zagbayi Pharmacy, Calabar Road, Off Kano Road, Kaduna.

The agency Boss said its investigation of HMA, the manufacturing company, found no non-conformity with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements.

“It noted that the reported issue could therefore be linked to a challenge within the supply chain rather than a manufacturing defect.

NAFDAC Boss explained that the matter had previously undergone regulatory review and investigation and was satisfactorily resolved several months ago.

“It further assured that Deleject Disposable Needle products currently in distribution are in good and acceptable condition and have met applicable quality requirements and regulatory expectations.

“There is no evidence indicating any quality or safety risk to healthcare providers, patients, distributors, or the public,” the agency said.

NAFDAC consequently reassured healthcare providers, distributors and other stakeholders of the quality and safety of Deleject Disposable Needles, adding that the erroneous publication was regretted and should be ignored.

The clarification comes amid renewed emphasis by the agency on strengthening Nigeria’s pharmaceutical supply chain and product traceability.

NAFDAC officials stressed that even products manufactured to high quality standards could become unsafe if improperly handled during transportation, storage or distribution.

The agency said its traceability system is being strengthened to enable regulators to track products from manufacturers and warehouses through different points in the distribution chain to their final destinations.

According to the agency, improved traceability would also help detect diversion and identify points where products may have been exposed to unsuitable conditions.

NAFDAC called for greater compliance among distributors and transporters, particularly the use of appropriate vehicles and storage facilities for specific categories of products.

The agency said the ultimate objective was to ensure that products leaving manufacturing facilities and warehouses reach consumers in safe and acceptable conditions, thereby protecting public health.
