Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has barred Amotekun, a Western Nigerian security network, and vigilante groups from participating in Ondo State’s November 16 governorship election.

This decision aims to ensure a peaceful and orderly electoral process. To achieve this, Egbetokun has ordered the deployment of specialized police units, including the Special Intervention Squad, Police Mobile Force, and Counter-Terrorism Unit.

Aerial patrols via helicopters and gunboat patrols along waterways will also be conducted to secure all terrains.

The police will work closely with other security agencies, adhering strictly to the Electoral Act 2022 guidelines.

This ensures fairness, transparency, and order throughout the election process.

Egbetokun warned potential troublemakers, stating that anyone disrupting the elections will face severe consequences.

Only federal security agencies and Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security members will oversee election security. With comprehensive plans in place, the Nigeria Police Force is committed to a smooth and incident-free election.
