Bola Tinubu has commended Nigeria’s media industry for its role in informing citizens, creating employment and sustaining livelihoods, while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to ongoing engagement with the press.

Speaking during a meeting with media stakeholders, the President described leadership as the willingness to take difficult but necessary decisions, noting that his government implemented critical reforms to steer the country away from economic instability. He acknowledged the challenges faced upon assuming office but expressed confidence that recent policies had helped stabilise the nation’s finances.

Tinubu also addressed concerns raised by media executives regarding tariff policies, indicating that the issues were discussed and assuring that any necessary adjustments would be considered.

The President thanked journalists for their early criticisms, describing them as a source of motivation that helped shape policy direction. He urged the media to intensify its watchdog role at state and local government levels, stressing that federal reforms had increased financial resources available to subnational administrations for development projects.

Also speaking, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, praised the President’s resilience and leadership style, while veteran journalist Olusegun Osoba highlighted the potential economic impact of initiatives such as the Nigeria Revenue Service and the National Single Window system.

The meeting signalled renewed collaboration between the federal government and the media sector, with assurances of policy support aimed at strengthening an independent press and advancing national development goals.
