The Republic of Cameroon celebrated its 53rd National Day on May 20, 2025, with a grand ceremony in Yaounde, the country’s capital.

The event, also known as Unity Day, was themed “Army and Nation United for a Cameroon Turned Towards Peace and Prosperity.” Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Christopher Gwabin Musa led a Nigerian delegation to the celebrations, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to fostering stronger partnerships with Cameroon and other neighbouring nations.

The celebrations featured military exhibitions, defense equipment displays, solidarity treks, and ceremonial parades, showcasing Cameroon’s unity, strength, and commitment to national development. The Nigerian Armed Forces contingent made a notable impression, being the first and only foreign presentation at the ceremony. Their precision drills, vibrant musical displays, and impeccable regimental coordination earned accolades and admiration from the crowd.

The event was attended by Cameroon’s President Paul Biya, senior government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and citizens from across the country. General Musa expressed appreciation for the warm reception and highlighted the importance of bilateral cooperation in addressing common security challenges and promoting socio-economic growth.

The participation of the Nigerian contingent underscores the strong bilateral ties and military cooperation between Nigeria and Cameroon, reinforcing shared commitments to regional security, peace, and prosperity.
